Season recap

We continue to summarize the regular season, club by club. Now it is time for the Malmö Redhawks, who finished in ninth place. "We lost a little too many unnecessary games at the beginning of the season. Had we not done that we would have had a good chance at the top 6," said forward Christoffer Forsberg, 26.

Table position: 9 (77 points)

Christoffer Forsberg's comment: "Like all other teams, we aimed to reach the top 6. You always do that. You want to go straight to the playoffs, especially since we have done it two years in a row. We have proven that you do not always need the most expensive players, without them you can do far more hard work. 77 points is not that many points less than previous years, but it was incredibly even this year. We were still entering the playoffs with a good feeling."

Even though it was the team's worst placement since 2016, it sounds like you're not super disappointed?

– Absolutely not. We beat all teams in the league. We had a lot of good games at the end of the season. The last half of the season I think we were the fifth best team. It says a lot about the start we got, where we limped a lot and lost a little too many unnecessary games. Had we not done that we would have had a good chance at the top 6.

Is there any point where you felt the team turned things around, a particular game or some talk amongst the team?

– We had a lot of talks and we searched for the path we wanted to take, but it took a long time. We had a team that needed to mature during the season. We became more and more prepared as the season went on. That was probably what helped the ninth place finish in the end. We had to give it time. Towards the end, like I said, we looked better and better, and that applies to both practice and games.

Powerplay: 18.18 percent (10)

Forsberg's comment: “I am more involved in the penalty kill than in the powerplay. We have skilled players in our powerplay and a good PP coach in Jesper Mattsson. They worked very hard every day to make it better"

Penalty Kill: 79.75 percent (10)

Forsberg's comment: "The last 30 games, I think we were among the best teams in the league. We had a very tough start when it comes to the kill. Small things were working and we trust each other there. Overall we have had a good kill. We know that everyone can trust each other, that everyone does their own thing and following what we have said is important."

Offensively, number of goals scored: 131 (10)

Forsberg's comment: “A little upside down there. We had a meeting at the end of the season on statistics in the latter half and we could look at that quite positively. In some games where things got tough and goal-oriented, we didn't really have that last surge to score. We have created a lot of dangerous situations in the dangerous positions, but it is important to capitalize on the chances. The offense is good. Defense is our strength, but I think the offensive is good”

Defensively, number of goals scored: 130 (5)

Forsberg's comment: “Our defense is good. As I have said, we had a harder start. Again, we are satisfied with the second half of the season. We have two very good goalkeepers in Oscar Alsenfelt and Lars Volden who we have known can be great at any time. When we follow our game system, as we often do, we know we are good defensively."

Home Record: 45 points (9)

Forsberg's comment: “We want to be better than we have been at home, of course. When we are that hard team and come out hard, we know that the opponents do not want to be involved. It's something we want to get better at. There is not much to say about it. We've tried and have been a bit uneven."

Away Record: 32 points (7)

Forsberg's comment: “We had a hard time last year on the road. We talked a lot before the season about being better off and we improved this season. Of course, we have respect for the opponents, but we do not respect them so much that we dare not go out and play our game. We have taken command in many away games. It's something we should have done more often at home too."

Save percentage: 91, 28 percent (3)

Forsberg's comment: "Both Volden and" Ogge "(Alsenfelt) did their thing. "Ogge" played most of the matches and in my opinion he is the league's best goalkeeper. He steps up when the team needs him. Through the years that we have been here together he has won a great many games for us. He is a game winner and a goalkeeper you can always trust. Extremely important to have good goalkeepers and we have had that."
