WEEKLY RECAP: ÖREBRO KEEP ROLLING
Publicerad:

With the past week behind us we take a look at action both on and off the ice from the past seven days.
Undefeated
With just four games played in the regular season, Örebro remains the only team without a mark in the loss column. This comes after their opening week saw them defeat both Leksand and Rögle and this week saw them grab all six possible points from their pair of games.
Thursday saw them squaring off against Luleå in a match that turned out to be a tight contest and included a goal for the history books. The total shots were 21-17 in favour of Luleå but it was Örebro who would come away with the 2-1 victory in a hard fought contest. The second and game winning goal for Örebro came early in the third period, courtesy Jonathan Lekkerimäki. The 19 year old, who was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in 2022, had previously scored in the opening two games of the season. With his goal against Luleå he joined elite company, becoming just the fourth junior player in SHL history to score a goal in his first three games of the season. The three previous players to do this were Markus Naslund, Peter Forsberg and Thomas Gradin.
Saturday afternoon saw them continuing on their road trip as they travelled south to Skellefteå to take on the team that eliminated them from the post season last year. Just like Thursdays contest, Örebro was outshot in this game and heavily. Despite putting just 21 shots on target and giving up 33 they still managed to come away with a 3-1 victory to claim the full three points in the standings. Unfortunately for Lekkerimäki, however, he was unable to extend his goal streak to four games.
With the full six points claimed this week, Örebro now sits alone at the top of the standings with 11 points. Rounding out the top three are Färjestad with 9 points and Frölunda with 7.
O'Regan
With the regular season now in full swing, player signings and moves have started to pick up as well. This week saw MoDo recruiting from across the pond as they have signed American Danny O'Regan. The 29 year old forward has so far spent the entirety of his career in North America, with the majority of his time in the pros playing in the AHL. However he does have 30 NHL games under his belt.
- Danny is a skilled right-hander; he has very good game sense and is a good passer, but he can also finish. An offensively skilled player, says MoDo's sporting director Henrik Gradin.
The contract is valid through the end of this season.
Berglund
Filip Berglund has secured himself a three year contract extension with Örebro. The 26 year old defenders contract was set to expire at the end of this season, but both him and the team have come to an agreement that will see him stay through 2027.
- We have now been able to work with Filip for just over a year now and he has developed well during his time with us. Filip has started this year's season strongly and he has a drive to get better every day. Filip is important in our group, he has good values and on the ice he is a player who is reliable and useful in all forms of play, says Örebro's sporting director Niklas Eriksson.
Berglund is in his second season with Örebro after spending the 2021/22 season in the AHL. He previously has experience playing with Linköping and Skellefteå.

Edstrom
David Edstrom has broken the 100 minute mark in his SHL career which means he now qualifies for a rookie contract. The 18 year old was the final pick in this summers first round of the NHL draft, going 32nd overall to Las Vegas. He played 11 games with Frölunda last season and with his debut in the season opener he qualifies for his rookie contract, which he has signed this week.
- David is a talented and humble player who works hard. He is a guy we believe in a lot and it will be fun to see him take steps in the future, says Frölunda's sporting director Fredrik Sjöström.
The young forward also signed an ELC with Las Vegas in the off season.
