Weekly Recap

With the past seven days behind us, we take a look back at action from both on and off the ice.

HV71

It's no lie to say that HV71 has had their struggles this season. They currently sit 13th in the standings, two points behind MoDo. They are -28 in the goals for/against category and are eight points out of a playoff spot. So HV71 fans have not had much to cheer about this season. However, on Saturday afternoon they put on one hell of a show for their hometown fans.

They welcomed Oskarshamn to Jönköping as the bottom two teams in the league faced off and I don't think anyone could've predicted the final score in this one.

It started fast a furious in the first period as HV71 wasted no time finding the back of the net... three times. By the time the first period was less than three minutes old, the hometown team already had a 3-0 lead. Before then end of the first frame Oskarshamn would score one of their own and cut the lead to two, however HV71 wasn't done there.

They'd start the second very similar to the first as they found the back of the net just 29 seconds into the frame to restore the three goal lead. They would then add another pair of goals and carry a 6-1 lead into the third frame. However, much to the delight of their fans, the third period would prove to be the most dominant for HV71.

HV71 would score a staggering four additional goals in the third period and all before the 13 minute mark of the frame. The 10-1 victory was one of the most lopsided wins of the season so far and one player in particular stood out among the rest.

The captain of HV71 André Pettersson scored 4 goals, had 2 assists, was a +4, and put 7 shots on goal all with just 13:04 of ice time. It was certainly one of the best individual performances of the season thus far.

Lindroth

Max Lindroth has decided to not only part ways with Frölunda but also the SHL this week. The 27 year old defender has spent his entire hockey career is his home country of Sweden and has played for Linköping, Färjestad and Frölunda over the past five years. However, he has decided to head across the baltic as he has joined TPS in Finlands top league, Ligga.

- This is a joint decision, but it is always tough and sad when someone leaves us. Max is professional and a great guy and this will be an opportunity for him to get a bigger role, says Fredrik Sjöström, Frölunda's sporting director.

Bernhardt

MoDo has decided to extend one of their defenders this week as David Bernhardt has signed a contract extension. Bernhartd, who is 26, is in his third season with MoDo and was an important piece of their team when they won promotion to the SHL last season. During the post season he scored 10 goals and added 11 assists in 17 games and was named playoff MVP. He was also just one point shy of being a point per game player in the regular season last year.

The new contract will see him stay with the team until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Nenonen

With their continued struggles this season Oskarshamn has decided to recruit some help from outside the league as they have signed veteran forward Markus Nenonen. The 31 year old Finn has played his entire career so far in Finland, including the last five seasons with HPK.

- We have been looking for reinforcements for the final part of the season and have now found what we believe is a good match for IK Oskarshamn. Markus has shown that he is a scoring player over time in Liiga. My hope is that he can get it out in Sweden and the SHL as well, says Oskarshamn's GM Thomas Fröberg.
